About Greg Sweeney
As Bell’s chief investment officer, Greg Sweeney oversees the company’s overall investment management strategy and chairs the Bell Institutional Investment Management committee. Working for Bell since 1992, Greg has been a highly regarded speaker at various industry conferences and named several times on Thompson Financial’s list of the World’s Best Money Managers. Published strategies include pieces in Institutional Investor’s Bondweek, the Insurance and Finance Journal and the Wall Street Transcript.
Greg demonstrates expertise and vision in economics, trading, analysis, statistics, portfolio management and asset allocation for insurance companies, foundations, retirement plans and high-net-worth clients. He uses his extensive experience, critical thinking and judgment to plan, build and implement successful institutional portfolio strategies. Greg leads BIIM’s portfolio managers in developing and aligning investment strategies to investment policy guidelines, implementing these tactics into successful portfolio structures and performing regular ongoing evaluations of portfolio configurations and results.
Graduating from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, Greg earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1985 with finance and investment disciplines. Greg has been a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder since 1993.
About Shari Ballard
Shari Ballard is a seasoned executive with more than 25 years of deep retail experience. In 2021, she became chief executive officer of Minnesota United FC, the state’s Major League Soccer franchise. Prior to that, Shari was president of multichannel retail for Best Buy Co. Inc., where she was responsible for all U.S. Best Buy stores, e-commerce, Best Buy Mexico and the company’s real estate strategy.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan – Flint, Shari was hired in 1993 to work in a local Best Buy store, beginning as an assistant store manager and rising to general manager. After a variety of retail leadership roles, she was promoted to executive vice president of human resources and legal.
In 2007, Shari assumed responsibility for Best Buy stores in the United States, focusing on deepening customer relationships and better using the full range of talent and resources within the company’s stores to drive growth. She was promoted to president of Americas, U.S. and Mexico in 2010, and in 2012, president of international, overseeing business and the transformation efforts in Canada, China, Europe and Mexico. In 2014, Shari became president of U.S. retail and eventually began a dual role to include chief human resources officer. In 2017, she added e-commerce to her responsibilities.
Shari serves on the board of directors for Ecolab Inc., PetSmart, Allina Health, and the board of trustees for the University of Minnesota Foundation.
About Marney Gellner
Marney Gellner is a longtime broadcaster and announcer for pro baseball and basketball games. One of very few women sports announcers when she started her career, Marney’s knowledge and humor have made her a widely recognized face and voice in Minnesota sports. Now described as “at home in any broadcast booth,” Marney has been with Bally (formerly FOX) Sports North since 2002, including stints in sideline reporting, pre-game and post-game analysis hosting and interviews, and play-by-play announcing for the Lynx, Timberwolves and Twins.
Also a Bell Bank Champion, Marney is an ambassador for Bell, and more importantly, for paying it forward to help others. Marney has supported numerous local foundations, charities and fundraising events and has co-hosted the annual Twins Diamond Awards, a celebration of baseball, medical research and philanthropy. This past summer, she emceed the first-ever Get Down Business Accelerator, presented by Bell Bank during 3M Open events.
Marney grew up in Minot, N.D., earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D., and her master’s degree from North Dakota State University. She has worked in television news and sports for stations in Bismarck, Grand Forks, and Madison, Wis., and freelanced for platforms including the Big Ten Network.
