After qualifying for the world championships in South Africa in 2017, Branden became passionate about triathlons. In 2018, he competed in 12 triathlons, setting 5 course records around North Dakota and Minnesota and placing sixth in his age group in the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Championship in Australia.
