Apple Valley, Minn.Tyus Jones is a unique combination – a standout basketball talent from a young age, whose hometown values have helped him stay anchored despite the pressures of playing basketball at a high level, in both the NCAA and the NBA.
Shared values are what helped Tyus forge a partnership with us as a Bell Bank Champion. We’re proud of the work he does with his Team 1Tyus AAU boys basketball program and his inspirational teaching platform for kids, Write Your Own Story.
We asked Tyus a little more about his role as a Champion and why he appreciates Bell.
What does your partnership with Bell mean to you?Working together on Pay It Forward initiatives, as well as the sponsorship of my Team 1Tyus AAU boys basketball program, truly means a lot to me. I have a passion for making a difference in kids’ lives and want them to have positive experiences. Bell Bank is helping make that happen.
How did you decide to work with Bell?Bell’s CEO, Mike Solberg, initially reached out to me about the possibility of us working together. After some meetings, we decided our goals and values aligned, which ultimately led to our partnership, which started last year.
What’s it like to work with Bell? It’s been great. I’ve really enjoyed working with everyone I’ve met in the organization. Bell’s people truly care, and they are passionate about the work they do.
What do you tell others about Bell?I tell people that Bell has great people who really focus on customer service. They really do go above and beyond for their customers.
Why is it important to you to work with a bank that prioritizes giving back to the community?Giving back is extremely important to me and one of the reasons why I decided to work with Bell. Bell’s Pay It Forward program empowers people to give back, and we’ve been able to partner together with one of my favorite charities: United Heroes League.
United Heroes League is a nonprofit that focuses on helping military families and allowing their children opportunities through sports. This past season, Bell helped me host some of those families at games. It was very meaningful to me to have the chance to meet them.
Country music singer and sports radio host Chris Hawkey started banking with Bell because of our Pay It Forward program. That connection now helps him live out a childhood dream.
Branden ScheelBranden Scheel competed in his first triathlon when he was 11 years old. After qualifying for the world championships in 2017, he became passionate about competing in the sport, something his partnership with Bell helps make possible.
Minnesota United FC CEO Chris Wright appreciates that through their partnership with Bell, the club has found a socially responsible bank that goes above and beyond in taking care of the team's players.
