Even small gifts change lives

Pay It Forward

Donation Helps Sick Dog and Her Puppies

Several Bell Bank employees showed how much they love dogs with their Pay It Forward gift.

“The veterinary costs to care for special needs cases are routinely high and can easily deplete our medical care fund. 4 Luv of Dog Rescue could not continue to help medical needs dogs without the monetary support of compassionate community members like the Bell Bank employees.” – Kish Hilmert, 4 Luv of Dog president

4 Luv of Dog Rescue

The Need

4 Luv of Dog Rescue is a volunteer run, non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming dogs. It is based in Fargo, and most of the dogs are kept in foster families until they can be adopted.

Iris and her 6 puppies were living in a foster home when her foster family noticed she was acting out of sorts. They took her to the emergency vet and found she hand an infection that required immediate surgery followed by antibiotics. Since Iris was unable to nurse, volunteers took in her puppies and bottle fed them for nearly 2 weeks.

Iris also tested positive for heartworm and has to go through several months of treatment.

The Impact

4 Luv of Dog relies on grants, fundraising and donations to cover their expenses, which include vet bills, medications, food and other supplies.

Several of our employees who share a love of animals teamed up to donate $6,500 to help with the veterinary care for Iris and her puppies.

“The Bell Bank Pay It Forward donation meant a lot to the rescue,” Kish remarks. “That kind of generous support lets 4 Luv of Dog Rescue know that the community also supports the rescue’s mission to help homeless dogs – no matter their breed or medical condition.”

Jill Furman, a mortgage servicing insurance specialist in our Fargo offices, organized the group donation.

“I am a HUGE dog fan, specifically of bully breeds. (I have 2 American bulldogs that I love more than anything.) So, it seemed right to use the money to help a dog rescue,” Jill comments. “We thought it would be nice to give the money to one dog that maybe needed more help. I am just really lucky to work with a group of people in mortgage servicing who love dogs the way I do and wanted to help, too as well as for a company that wants to give back and allows us to put the funds toward something we have a passion for.”

The puppies have all been adopted, and Iris will be available after she finishes her heartworm treatment.
