Even small gifts change lives

Helping Homeless Pets Find ‘Furever’ Families

Tasked with planning their team’s culture committee activity in May, Bell Bank employees Amanda Sauvageau and Baily Pfeifer turned team-building into an opportunity to help homeless cats and dogs.
“Rescuing animals is very important to me. It's just so exciting to have that opportunity to donate to a cause that means so much.” – Baily Pfeifer, Bell Bank

The Need

When Amanda Sauvageau and Baily Pfeifer were making plans for the mortgage servicing culture committee at Bell, they found out National Pet Week was coming up, so they emailed their team, saying they wanted to raise money for Homeward Animal Shelter in Fargo.

“We had a lot of great co-workers who came together and gave,” Amanda notes.

The group raised $5,600 for the shelter, which works to rescue, shelter, protect and rehome animals.

“It’s so meaningful that they want to support the work we’re doing,” says Tasha Haug, Homeward’s executive director. “That gift can help so many animals. So many animals can have a second chance at their best life with their forever families.”

The Impact

In addition to the 9 dog kennels and 30 cat kennels at Homeward, the animal shelter also cares for many pets living in foster homes until they can be adopted.

“To see the connection between the people and their pets and that we brought them together is just the most heartwarming thing to see,” Tausha remarks.

Both Amanda and Baily have dogs of their own, and Baily’s was adopted from a rescue.

“Rescuing animals is very important to me,” Baily explains. “It’s just so exciting to have that opportunity to donate to a cause that means so much.”

Through the Pay It Forward program, Bell gives employees money each year to donate to people and causes they care about.
