Bell Bank Offers Specialized Lending for Private Practices

Though Adaliz Gimenez has never worked in health care, she frequently attends medical conferences and seminars. She doesn’t do it for credit, of course, but the experience helps in her career nonetheless. Adaliz is a Bell Bank commercial banker, specializing in loans for doctors, dentists, lawyers, really anyone “with letters behind and in front of their name.”


“Lending for professionals in private practice is very unique,” Adaliz explains. “Other banks might put together a loan program for private practices and attempt to fit everyone into that box, but that limits flexibility. Professionals in private practice don’t fit into a box. At Bell, we take a very personalized approach, meeting with clients and taking the time to understand their practice and professional goals.”


That’s where Bell comes in.


Adaliz has been specializing in lending and banking for professionals in health care, law, dentistry and other types of private practice for more than 15 years.


“It’s something that I really enjoy,” she remarks. “I’ve become somewhat of an expert in that segment. There are a lot of particulars, and it makes a big difference being able to speak the language and understand my clients’ unique finances, trends, challenges, long-term goals, and what they need to help their businesses succeed.”


A few years ago when billing codes changed, medical practices were concerned about how the changes would impact their cash flows. Since she was ahead of the game and knew the change was coming, Adaliz was able to offer credit lines to help with potential cash-flow problems.


“Not many banks were doing that,” she notes. “I was able to build important relationships, because I was proactive.”


To circumvent the challenges caused by the uniqueness of accounting methods and tax strategies, Adaliz relies on a business owner’s reputation, character and strength of deal as well as the business owner’s personal financial strength.


Adaliz also helps her clients connect with other members of Bell’s team who might be able to assist them with services like private banking, mortgage and wealth management. Most of her clients are in Arizona or considering the Arizona market.


“I like that what I do for my clients helps improve the communities I serve,” Adaliz says. “Some of my most rewarding experiences are when I work with a client on their start-up costs after graduation. Then a few years later, I’m able to help them buy a building. And eventually I help them expand and bring in partners. It’s so rewarding to be a part of that – to look back and see what I’ve helped them accomplish.”


Finding Her Calling

Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Adaliz earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Puerto Rico. After graduating, she was accepted into an 18-month intensive management training program with a bank from Spain, where she rotated through all areas of banking from teller to credit risk to business banking. That’s where she found her calling.


“I was drawn by the interaction with business owners and learning their stories,” Adaliz notes. “They’re the engine of the economy, turning a tiny idea into a big business opportunity. They employ so many people and make such a big impact in our economy and lives, and as a commercial banker, I get to help people accomplish their dreams. It might just be a loan, but it’s also someone’s dream come true, whether they’re starting a business or expanding and hiring more people. They’re such an important, valuable part of our community, and I wanted to be part of that.”


Adaliz went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and then worked as a business banker and commercial lender for a well-known national bank before joining Bell in November of 2019.


“It was a bit scary coming from a well-recognized brand,” she notes. “But it was a no-brainer once I learned about Bell and the company’s independent ownership, people-first philosophy, mission to help others and values of providing unequaled customer service, a family atmosphere and paying it forward in the communities we serve.”


In addition to Bell’s Pay It Forward program, which empowers employees to donate to causes they care about, Bell gives employees paid time to volunteer in their communities. Adaliz likes to spend her volunteer time and Pay It Forward funds supporting and inspiring young women at risk of dropping out of school due to pregnancy or socioeconomic challenges.


In July of 2020, Adaliz was named one of the Most Influential Women in Arizona by Arizona Business Magazine, which considered more than 2,000 nominees and named only 50 women to its list.


Declaring she is better with words than figures and joking, “In Spanish I’m really smart,” Adaliz sees banking as more about building relationships than crunching numbers.


“For me, it’s about communication and telling their story,” she affirms. “The relationship aspect is what I enjoy most – that, and making sure my clients’ loans are done right.”
