Steven Mountjoy
VP/Commercial Banker
What I enjoy most about working at Bell are the people, culture and the bank’s focus on serving our clients.
My role as a commercial banker is to be a consultative partner for my clients in helping them succeed. I provide a wide range of financing options for commercial real estate construction, purchases and refinances, as well as equipment, business acquisitions and working capital. Just as importantly, I help clients manage their cash flow by recommending deposit account structures and treasury management opportunities. Beyond helping my clients with banking options, I feel it is my role to help them grow their business by making referrals to clients, introducing them to value-added partners, and helping inform them on what is happening in their industry and the economy.
The best part of my job is working with clients and having strategic discussions about their future business goals. Building relationships is one of the things I find most satisfying about my job. I also enjoy the creativity and problem-solving involved in structuring loans to best help my clients.
A Columbia, Mo., native, I earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Arizona in Tucson. In addition to my formal education, I had the opportunity to complete a 3-year credit training certification course through the Risk Management Association.
I have spent the majority of my banking career, which launched in 2007, in various commercial banking roles. Spending time previously in underwriting/credit, as well as business development and relationship management, has given me a deeper understanding of the credit and sales process. I have also worked in other roles outside of commercial banking, including special assets and private banking.
My wife, Tara, and I live in Scottsdale, Ariz., and have 1 child. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, backpacking, running, mountain biking, eating new foods, spending time with family and traveling. One of my favorite trips was to Africa to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding climbs I have had the opportunity to do. Once we reached the summit, we were rewarded with a view overlooking the clouds on one side and glaciers on the other. It was one of the most amazing and surreal experiences of my life.
