EVP/Banking and Lending Administration

In my role at Bell, I oversee our banking teams in the Twin Cities, Duluth and Phoenix. I also oversee Bell’s specialty lending teams across all markets – including correspondent banking, capital finance, and equipment finance – as well as our lending administration team encompassing Bell’s credit risk management, commercial loan documentation and banking legal functions.

I’m originally from Little Falls, Minn., and graduated from Concordia College (Moorhead, Minn.) and the University of Minnesota Law School.

My career has intersected with both the legal and financial worlds. I worked for 2 years as a CPA at RSM (formerly McGladrey & Pullen) prior to law school, then became an attorney at Taft (formerly Briggs & Morgan), where I was elected a shareholder in 2006. My law practice focused primarily on representing banks and other financial institutions in structuring, negotiating and documenting a variety of commercial finance transactions. During my time in law, I was named a Rising Star by Minnesota Law & Politics and listed among Minnesota’s Best Lawyers. My accounting and law background gives me a unique perspective in working with commercial clients, and I love forming deep, long-lasting relationships with our customers.

I joined Bell Bank in 2011 with the primary goal of forming a team that would build a strong presence in the Twin Cities. We started from scratch and will soon be closing in on $2 billion in assets in this region, so it has been an amazing adventure. Having enjoyed my role as co-chair of the recruiting committee at Briggs & Morgan, I jumped at the challenge of recruiting a talented, high-performing team of banking professionals, whose values align with those of Bell, to launch our Twin Cities banking team. To this day, identifying top talent to add to our teams remains a priority for me. I’m proud of Bell’s employees and our ability to creatively solve problems for our customers. I am also passionate about beating our competitors, and strongly believe that our approach to banking at Bell is simply the best.

Strategic planning is another of my favorite tasks. When we rally around a shared vision, work toward a goal, and celebrate our successes, it’s a great joy to see how that builds comradery and pride.

My wife, Jen, and I live in Apple Valley with our 4 children. I enjoy coaching my kids’ activities, traveling, spending time outdoors and eating good food.
