Even small gifts change lives

Community Connect

Legacy Children's Foundation

Sheila Carter, lead teller at the Fargo - Southpointe location, chose Ross Johnson and Adam Johnson, longtime bank customers who own Innovative Basement Systems, as Pay It Forward Community Connect partners. Ross and Adam decided to give the $2,500 to the Legacy Children's Foundation, a nonprofit developed by Fargo teenagers in 2011 to provide additional relationships and resources to inspire teens to complete high school.

The foundation will use the money to help buy and renovate a house in the Madison school neighborhood to serve as their base of operations. It will provide space for socials, study areas, a computer lab, community service projects, health and fitness classes, music, voice and dance lessons and a safe place for the teens to be on Friday and Saturday nights.

The property is near Golden Ridge Lutheran Church, which allows the group to use their basement for after-school tutoring sessions during the school year and math and reading lessons provided by Sylvan Learning Center during the summer.

Ross has been a key Legacy supporter since its inception. Innovative Basement Systems will also donate labor, materials and expertise to fully waterproof the home's basement.

Legacy will receive a 2:1 matching gift of $140,000 from an anonymous donor once the group raises $70,000. They are quite close to reaching that goal! The funds will be used to purchase the property, renovate it to match programming needs, and provide some extra money for future improvements.

Legacy is extremely grateful for Bell's generosity, not only for this donation, but for all of the support from Bell over the years!
