Even small gifts change lives

Pay It Forward

Bell Bank Supports TEDxFargo

Through its sponsorship of TEDxFargo, Bell Bank is helping change how people see the world around them. The event brings people together to share ideas, inspire each other and make connections.

“TEDxFargo is exciting and unique,” says Julie Peterson Klein, Bell’s chief culture officer, who is TEDxFargo’s advisory chair, volunteer coordinator and has been involved with the event for the past several years. “It promotes ideas worth sharing, and it really challenges people to think about the world around them in new and different ways. There is no other event like TEDxFargo!”

Bell is proud to support TEDxFargo because it aligns with the bank’s value of paying it forward to the communities we serve, Julie says.

“What’s really magical is what happens in the community after the event,” Julie remarks. “People who listen to the talks learn about things they may have never thought of or heard of before. One of the event’s goals is to urge people into action. Businesses have been started and inspired by TEDxFargo. The event is leaving a legacy that will help our community for many years to come.”

The event draws people of all ages, backgrounds and interests. Last year, 1,500 people attended and 150 volunteers helped make it a success. Bell is a major sponsor and organizes the volunteers.

Lynn Johnson, Bell’s director of retail banking, has volunteered for TEDxFargo for the past 3 years.

“I like meeting new people and listening to the speakers talk about something they are passionate about,” she says. “The TEDx event is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals spark conversations and connections at the local level. I volunteer because it is an opportunity to invest in our community and the people who live in it.”

Bell Bank commercial lender Matt Gruchalla says he volunteers at TEDxFargo because he loves the event.

“The speakers are incredible, and the energy is amazing,” Matt remarks. “As TEDxFargo has become a high-profile event in our community, we’ve been able to attract outstanding speakers who put Fargo in a national spotlight. It’s also great to be able to support Emerging Prairie, a Bell customer, which organizes and is a major sponsor of the event.”

TEDxFargo will take place Thursday, July 27, at the Fargo Civic Center. The theme is “What are you for?” It focuses on ideas that inspire solutions to challenges. More than 20 speakers with backgrounds ranging from communications, education and the arts to business, science and leadership will present their ideas.

Attendees will also be able to participate in adventures such as rooftop yoga, science experiments and coffee roasting.

TEDxFargo is an independent event, started in 2012 and licensed by TED, a nonprofit organization that works to spread ideas through short, powerful talks. For more information or to buy tickets, visit the TEDxFargo website.
