IRS Announces 2027 Employee Benefit Limits

A smiling woman with curly hair chats warmly with two people in a bright, plant-filled living room.

Each year, the IRS updates the annual contribution limits and thresholds for employee benefit programs such as health savings accounts (HSAs) and high-deductible health plans (HDHPs). Staying up to date on these changes can help individuals and employers make informed benefits decisions. Here’s a look at what to know for 2027.

Health Savings Accounts

For 2027, HSA contribution limits will increase slightly for both individuals and families. The annual contribution limit for individuals will increase by $100 to $4,500, and the contribution limit for families will increase from $8,750 to $9,000. The catch-up contribution limit for those age 55 or older will remain the same at $1,000 for the year.

High-Deductible Health Plans

HDHP limits are also increasing slightly for 2027. The minimum annual deductible for HDHPs will increase from $1,700 to $1,750 for individuals, and from $3,400 to $3,500 for families. The annual out-of-pocket maximum for HDHPs will increase from $8,500 to $8,700 for individuals, and from $17,000 to $17,400 for families.

Health Reimbursement Arrangements

The annual benefit limit for Health Reimbursement Arrangements will increase by $50 to $2,250 for 2027.
